On February 21, the law school will host "Pretrial Detention in Florida: Strategies for Saving Taxpayer Money While Improving Public Safety." This is the first in a series of events organized by the Florida TaxWatch Center for Smart Justice and the Criminal Justice Section of the American Bar Association. Professor Wayne A. Logan is helping produce and also will speak at the event, which will take place from 8:30-11:45 a.m. in the law school's Rotunda.
Event Details:
The event will assemble state and national leaders in pretrial justice to consider ways in which Florida law, policy, and practice might be improved, resulting in enhanced outcomes and budgetary savings.
In particular, attendees will be briefed on the results of an important multi-site research project under way in Florida, and learn what other states are doing to achieve positive results in the pretrial justice arena, especially relative to evidence-based programming.
The goal of the event is to find ways for Florida to enhance public safety by improving pretrial detention practices.
