Zach Posner is a co-founder and managing partner of The Legal Tech Fund, an investment fund which backs companies that are reimagining legal practice. Among issues that will be discussed are the following questions: What is venture capital, and what role has it played in the legal industry? What is unique about the legal tech market? What criteria do you use when investing in a company? What sort of exit do investors look for, and why is the exit profile different in legal tech from other markets? How is The Legal Tech Fund backing changing legal practice? Where do you see the future of legal tech, particularly with the emergence of generative AI? What will the practice of law look like in the next 10 years, and how should our students best prepare for this new world? The Charles F. Southmayd professor of law and professor of philosophy at Yale Law School Scott J. Shapiro will moderate this event.

Zach Posner is co-founder and managing partner of The LegalTech Fund (TLTF), a venture capital fund focused on technology companies that are transforming the world of law. He also co-founded the annual TLTF Summit, described as an event like no other, bringing together a curated group of influential and innovative leaders across the legal industry. At TLTF, Posner oversees the organization’s team, investments, operational activities, and support for its growing list of portfolio of companies. Before founding TLTF, Posner was the president and CEO of Entic, Inc., an energy analytics company acquired in 2019. Prior to Entic, he was a senior vice president and managing director at McGraw-Hill, leading its Learning Science Platforms division after the company acquired Engrade in 2014, a SaaS platform for K-12 Education co-founded and led by Posner. Posner has spent time at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Insight Partners, and he served in several other roles including as an adjunct lecturer in a master’s program at the University of Southern California. Posner holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Finance from Indiana University and is a proud Hoosier.
Scott J. Shapiro is the Charles F. Southmayd professor of law and professor of philosophy at Yale Law School. He also serves as founding director of the Yale CyberSecurity Lab. Shapiro’s areas of interest include jurisprudence, international law, constitutional law, criminal law, and cybersecurity. He holds a B.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University and a J.D. from Yale Law School. Shapiro was co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Jurisprudence and Philosophy of Law (Oxford University Press, 2002) and serves as an editor of Legal Theory and the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. In addition to 'Fancy Bear Goes Phishing and The Internationalists', he is the author of 'Legality' (Harvard University Press, 2011).
