City of Tallahassee Picture

Our location in the capital of the 4th largest state offers a number of outstanding opportunities for our students. The law school is located at the center of political, judicial and legal activity for the state of Florida. We are situated three blocks from the State Capitol, two blocks from the Florida Supreme Court, six blocks from the Federal District Court and across the street from Florida's largest District Court of Appeal.

This proximity allows us, among other things, to offer one of the most extensive externship programs in the country, placing more than 100 students each year in more than 60 public law offices and courts around Tallahassee and the state. This provides our students a significant advantage in obtaining invaluable clerking positions during the academic year and in the summer months. We are extremely proud of this unique for-credit program which has been recognized by the American Bar Association for the high quality of its supervised on-the-job training.

Public service is also a priority at the College of Law and our students have access to a rich program of lectures and symposiums on a variety of topics presented by state, national and international experts. Our students also have the unique privilege of witnessing Florida's Supreme Court as it convenes for special sessions on the College of Law campus.

If it's private practice that you are looking for, Tallahassee offers that as well. Check the professional listings in the Tallahassee telephone directory and you'll find the names of some of the country's most prestigious law firms. Firms such as Holland & Knight, Foley & Lardner, and Greenberg & Traurig, consistently listed among the nation's top-grossing law firms, all have offices in Tallahassee. Why Tallahassee? The answer is simple. As the capital of one of the country's largest states, Tallahassee is a center of considerable power and influence. Simply put, it's a place where decisions are made that shape the future, not just for Florida, but for the nation.
