Why did you choose the FSU College of Law?
I chose the FSU College of Law because of the 3+3 Program from UCF to FSU. In addition, FSU Law is a prestigious institution in the state of Florida. The deciding factor for me was the faculty - almost all of our professors come from, Yale, Harvard and Colombia. We are taught by some of the best and the brightest, at an affordable price.
Why do you want to be an attorney?
I chose to attend law school because historically, people from my community feel as if we don't have a voice. My thought process was, if I have the ability to do this, why not me? My ultimate goal is to use the skills that I gain from law school to make a difference in communities that resemble the one I grew up in. Growing up, I can honestly say, I do not remember seeing a person with a college degree using the knowledge they gained to effectuate change in our neighborhood, so I decided I would.
What has been your favorite course or who has been your favorite professor since starting your legal education?
My favorite course has been Legislation and Regulation because that class teaches the vital skills of being a lawyer. In class, we learned how to interpret statutes, how to turn that interpretation into something practical and how to use different canons of interpretation to argue for a certain side. As attorneys, these ambiguities are the reason we get paid. My favorite instructor is Professor Linford. Professor Linford keeps class entertaining by littering jokes into the subject matter of contracts, or copyright; while also engaging students intellectually and pushing them to think deeper.
What advice would you offer to a new incoming 1L law student?
Don't panic, work hard, remain focused and you can achieve your dreams. Never forget there are many avenues to get to your goals. Don't let the closing of a road end your journey.
