Professor Krieger co-directs the Externship Program and supervises criminal justice externships at the College of Law. He has extensive experience in law practice and has taught personal development for many decades. As a litigator, he handled more than 40,000 cases in criminal, civil, administrative, and bankruptcy courts. His teaching and research reflect these dual interests. At the College of Law he teaches courses on litigation skills, well-being, professional identity formation, and transformational leadership for lawyers, all with the goal of teaching students to practice law with joy and inspiration. For this work, he is one of 26 law professors featured in the 2013 book, What the Best Law Teachers Do (Harvard University Press).
Professor Krieger is internationally recognized for his empirical research on the well-being, satisfaction, values, and motivations of law students and lawyers. His books for law student well-being, professional identity, and career planning have been used at more than half of the law schools in the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Professor Krieger is founding chair of the Section on Balance and Well-Being in Legal Education, Association of American Law Schools. He has been recognized by the Association of American Law Schools (Student Services) and the American Bar Association for his contributions to the well-being of law students and lawyers. He is a 1978 honors graduate of the University of Florida College of Law and is a member of the Order of the Coif.
