Bio

Sara Spears is the legal fellow for the First Amendment Clinic at FSU College of Law, where she guides students in advocating for and understanding the significance of First Amendment freedoms. Spears earned her Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law, where she was an Honors Program student and member of the moot court board. During her time at Stetson Law, Spears was selected as a fellow for The Fund For American Studies’ summer law program, where she completed coursework at Antonin Scalia Law School and worked on secret recording and campaign finance issues for a boutique law firm.

Spears earned her B.A. cum laude from the University of West Florida and played Division II softball for the Argos (who made national championship runs during her sophomore and senior years). Spears was named an Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete for the 2016-2017 cycle. In 2018, Spears was selected as a Leadership Scholar for The Fund for American Studies’ Engalitcheff Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems, where she earned an outstanding student award, completed coursework at George Mason University, and completed an internship at the Federalist Society.

Prior to joining FSU Law, Spears served as an assistant attorney general in the Complex Litigation Bureau of the Florida Attorney General’s Office, where she litigated constitutional issues at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts.
