Mediation is an introductory skills course with teaching about mediation and "hands on" interactive group and class activities, including participation in role-play simulations.
Students will gain an understanding of mediation, primarily through the lens of the Florida Rules for Certified and Court-Appointed Mediators, the Florida Rules of Procedure, and Chapter 44, Florida Statutes, with a discussion of the Uniform Mediation Act. We will examine the core elements and ethics of mediation, the stages of mediation, the process of negotiation and its emotional elements, communication, and writing an effective mediation agreement. Students will practice skills to conduct mediation through interactive exercises and role plays.
