Resident Jurist The Honorable Melissa Damian Visits the College of Law
On Monday, October 20, we were honored to welcome The Honorable Melissa Damian to the College of Law as part of our Jurist in Residence Program. Judge Damian serves on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, where she previously held the position of U.S. Magistrate Judge. Before that, she spent 10 years as a U.S. Attorney. She earned her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and her B.A. from Princeton University.
Throughout her visit, Judge Damian shared thoughtful insights drawn from her distinguished career in both private practice and public service. She joined Professor Eisler’s Constitutional Law II class, met with students from Law Review and Moot Court, and participated in discussions with our Judicial Clerkship Committee. Over lunch, she engaged with 1L's interested in learning about federal courts and judicial clerkships, offering candid reflections on her path to the federal bench and the responsibilities of judicial service.
We are deeply grateful to Judge Damian for spending the day with our students and faculty, and to the many judges who have participated in our Jurist in Residence Program over the years. These visits provide our students invaluable opportunities to learn directly from the judiciary and to see, firsthand, the principles of law and professionalism in action.
