Government Use of AI: Active Debate, Limited Enactment
Several proposals introduced during Session addressed the use of AI by government entities, including procurement restrictions, data protections, and transparency requirements. Many of these concepts were incorporated into broader legislative discussions, particularly within SB 482 (2026).
However, because comprehensive AI legislation did not pass, Florida currently lacks a unified statutory framework governing government use of AI systems.
Legislative activity in this area suggests continued interest in issues such as:
- Vendor risk and procurement standards.
- Data handling and privacy protections.
- Transparency in automated decision-making.
These topics are likely to remain central in future Sessions as public-sector use of AI continues to expand.
