Law students help an FSU Law Gender and Family Justice Clinic client settle family law case during mediation

Student mediates successfully
3L Julisa Renaud

TALLAHASSEE—Congrats to our students who helped an FSU Law Gender and Family Justice Clinic client settle his family law case involving his son during mediation earlier this month! 3L Julisa Renaud, a certified legal intern, first appeared in court on the case in mid-December. The judge heard evidence on the motions drafted by 2Ls Kevin Harris and Alexandra “Alley” Noriega and entered two orders favorable to the client.

Earlier in January, Renaud analyzed the case to determine the best strategy for the client and met with him to prepare for mediation. She negotiated with opposing counsel the terms of an agreement—including time-sharing, a parenting plan, and child support—that ensure the client’s goals of seeing his young child more often and on a regular basis. According to Professor Carla Laroche, the clinic’s director, the client was elated by the result!
