FSU College of Law Class of 2028 Sets Record for Academic Excellence

Florida State University College of Law recently welcomed its entering Juris Doctor (J.D.) Class of 2028 to campus. This year’s cohort includes 153 first-year law students who posted the highest academic profile in the law school’s history, with a median LSAT of 166 and a median undergraduate GPA of 3.93.
“This has been a year of tremendous success for the College of Law,” said Erin O’Hara O’Connor, dean of the FSU College of Law. “The reputation of our students, faculty and alumni continues to grow, and that is reflected in both our rising national rankings and the extraordinary strength of this incoming class. We look forward to nurturing their development and witnessing their impact both in the classroom and beyond.”
In the 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings, FSU Law was ranked No. 38 overall and No. 17 among public law schools. It was also recognized by The Princeton Review as No. 4 in the nation for student quality of life and No. 6 for best professors. Both distinctions highlight the exceptional learning environment and renowned faculty that continue to draw top applicants.
Reflecting this momentum, FSU College of Law fall applications increased by 16.7% over the previous cycle, with only 15.9% of applicants admitted. The change underscores the growing competitiveness of FSU Law’s admissions process.
“This year’s class of incoming students is the result of a year with record-setting selectivity and yield from an incredibly large and competitive applicant pool,” said Jessica Dworkin, dean of FSU Law Admissions. “At FSU Law, the students are bringing with them not only record-setting LSAT scores and GPAs, but a wealth of experiences, perspectives and backgrounds. This class is more than only a group of aspiring lawyers. They are critical thinkers, emerging leaders and agents of positive change poised to shape the FSU Law community, and the wider legal profession with intellect, empathy, kindness and conviction.”
The class comes from 67 different undergraduate institutions and includes students with 37 diverse majors ranging from classics and pre-law to computer science and sociology. As travelers and global learners, they speak 19 languages other than English (including Arabic, Farsi, Jamaican Patois, ASL, and Mandarin) and collectively have studied or visited 77 countries. Their global and interdisciplinary perspectives elevate the academic environment and mirror the interconnected nature of modern legal practice.
Geographically varied, 36% of students hail from outside Florida, representing 27 U.S. states and 12 international countries. The cohort spans ages 19 to 40, encompassing recent graduates, mid-career professionals, parents, veterans, former educators, health care workers and even a professional golfer.
Beyond academia, the class brings vibrant personal passions: scuba diving, skydiving, sculpting, podcasting and competitive dance are among the many pursuits that personalize and enrich the law school community.
