This course introduces students to current and emerging international legal frameworks that govern global environmental concerns. It explores the treaty negotiation process, the role of international institutions in developing and implementing environmental agreements, the conflict between developed and developing countries’ perspectives on global environmental issues, and social and cultural realities that affect the implementation of international environmental law. Topics covered include climate change, stratospheric ozone depletion, ocean governance, wildlife and biodiversity protection, and human rights and the environment.
