FSU Law's First National Lefkowitz Moot Court Team
The Annual Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition has seen a strong start from the FSU Law Moot Court team, after emerging victorious from the Atlanta regionals in Second Place, the team secured advancement to the nationals in Washington, D.C. This is the third year that FSU has participated in the Saul Lefkowitz INTA Moot Court Competition and the first time that the FSU Moot Court Team has sent members to compete. 2L Students Devin DeLuna and Brayden Tompkins earned recognition as the Best Oralist team, an impressive feat for 2L students so early in their Moot Court competition careers.
This annual event honors Saul Lefkowitz, whose distinguished career was dedicated to the development of trademark and unfair competition law. The competition introduces law students to important issues arising in U.S. trademark and unfair competition law. Students are given the opportunity to develop their brief-writing and oral advocacy skills through a mock courtroom experience.
Approximately 80 teams of law students from U.S.-accredited law schools participate each year in six regional competitions. The top two teams from each region will go to the National competition in Washington, D.C.
Competition panels are typically judged by intellectual property experts. During the Atlanta regionals, several in-house intellectual property counsels from various elite entities were present, including Kilpatrick's intellectual property counsel, allowing our team to showcase their talents to specialists in this field.
A special thanks to the team's coach, alumnus Lauren Pettine ('19), associate at WRW Legal, PLLC, for her guidance and support of our team. Congratulations are in order for our first national Lefkowitz Moot Court Team and encouragement for their success at the National Competition in D.C., where their arguments will be heard before Trademark Trial and Appeal Board judges.
