AHCA is the state agency responsible for oversight of Florida’s Medicaid program. It also licenses and regulates health care facilities, such as nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities, laboratories and home health agencies. Students work in the Office of the General Counsel and assist with cases related to administration of the Medicaid plan, including defending the agency’s denial of benefits to beneficiaries, and recovering overpayments to service providers. Students conduct factual investigation, draft pleadings and motions, conduct discovery, negotiate settlements and prepare recommended final orders. Students may represent the agency at informal and formal hearings.
