United States Senator’s Office (Washington, D.C.)

The student will work primarily under the supervision of a general counsel for a U.S. senator in Washington, D.C. The student will conduct research and draft memoranda on legal issues relating to legislation, Senate rules of administration, Senate ethical rules and issues arising in office administration. The student also will assist the general counsel with matters related to the federal judiciary; will help track legislation by attending legislative hearings and writing summaries; will provide support for the Senator’s legislative staff by gathering and organizing information for bills, speeches, special reports, questions for committee hearings, etc.; and will assist with constituent correspondence. The student may attend meetings with the senator and his staff, staff from other legislative offices, White House liaisons, constituents, lobbyists, special interest groups and others. Summer: Student will work 40 hours per week for 6 weeks. Fall and Spring: Student will work 20 hours per week for 13 weeks.
