TALLAHASSEE—Florida State College of Law Professor Curtis Bridgeman is one of only 16 scholars selected nationwide to present their work at the prestigious 2005 Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum. The forum will be held May 27 and 28 at Stanford Law School in California. 

He will present his paper, titled, “Strict Liability and the Fault Standard in Corrective Justice Accounts of Contract,” during a session on contracts and commercial law. 

Bridgeman writes on theories of private law, especially contract. Before joining the law school in 2004, he clerked in Nashville, Tenn., for the Honorable Gilbert Merritt of the Sixth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals. He won numerous awards in law school, including the Bennett Douglas Bell Memorial Award, the only student award voted by the entire faculty at Vanderbilt Law School, and the Myron Penn Laughlin Recent Development Award for a Student Note, that appeared in the Vanderbilt Law Review 237 (2003). He received his J.D. in 2003 and a Ph.D. in philosophy in 2002, both from Vanderbilt University. In his first year at the College of Law, he was elected Professor of the Year by first-year students. 

Founded in 1999, the forum invites junior law faculty from across the country to submit unpublished papers for “blind evaluation.” Only a few of these papers are selected by a jury for presentation and critique by senior scholars at the forum. 

The forum, founded by two law professors—one from Stanford and one from Yale—is held in alternating years on Stanford and Yale campuses. The Stanford forums focus on private law and dispute resolution and the Yale forums, on public law and the humanities.
