Federal Bankruptcy Judge to Join Florida State Law Faculty

The Honorable Bruce A. Markell

Effective this summer, the Honorable Bruce A. Markell will become the Jeffrey A. Stoops Professor at the Florida State University College of Law. Judge Markell is a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Nevada and is a Member of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Immediately prior to his appointment to the bench, Markell was the Doris S. and Theodore B. Lee Professor at the University of Nevada Law School. Prior to that, he was a professor at Indiana University – Bloomington Law School, after practicing as a partner at Sidley & Austin’s Los Angeles office.

Judge Markell has published numerous books and articles in bankruptcy, commercial law and contracts. He has been active in commercial law reform nationally and internationally.

Florida State has recently been lauded for its extraordinary record of placing graduates in jobs that require J.D. degrees.
