TALLAHASSEE — Florida State University College of Law Dean Donald J. Weidner has been appointed to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (also known as the Uniform Law Commission) by Florida Gov. Rick Scott. Weidner’s term began Nov. 29, 2011, and ends June 5, 2015.

The Uniform Law Commission is the nation’s leading statutory law reform group, with representatives appointed by every state, with the special purpose of drafting uniform business laws for all states to adopt. Weidner previously served the commission as the reporter (the principal drafter) for the Revised Uniform Partnership Act (1994).

“It is critical to have clear and properly designed rules to facilitate business among the states,” Weidner said, “and the commission makes a great effort to solicit input from all affected groups.”

Weidner’s appointment follows his being named one of nine transformative law deans of the past decade by legal blogger and University of Chicago Professor Brian Leiter in August. Also last summer, he was selected as an appeals judge for the Gulf Coast Claims Facility resolving claims from the BP oil spill.
