TALLAHASSEE — According to a recently released study, the Florida State University College of Law faculty is first in Florida and 29th nationally in terms of scholarly impact. Florida State is the only Florida law school ranked in the top 50.

The 2018 study ranked the scholarly impact of law faculties at schools in the top third of all ABA-accredited law schools. Originally developed by Professor Brian Leiter of the University of Chicago Law School, the “scholarly impact score” for a law faculty is calculated utilizing the mean and the median of total law journal citations over the past five years for tenured faculty members. 

“Impactful scholarship increases the visibility of our school and faculty, career prospects for our students and the value of an FSU law degree,” said Dean Erin O’Connor. “It is an honor to work with such dedicated, influential colleagues.”

The nation’s top three law schools for scholarly impact are Yale, Harvard and the University of Chicago.
