TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) recently created a Law Student Division and named its first president, rising third-year Florida State University College of Law student Joseph “Joe” Percopo.

The Law Student Division will provide an extension of the YLD’s work to familiarize young lawyers with the services offered by The Florida Bar as they transition from law students to lawyers.

“It is our goal to also promote professionalism and implement mentoring programs for law students,” Percopo said. “We anticipate creating a huge opportunity for law students to network with local attorneys and attend events in which attorneys throughout the state participate.”

“We are thrilled that a Florida State Law student has the honor of serving as the first president of this new group,” said Dean Don Weidner. “I am sure Joe will do a good job spearheading this initiative.”

According to Percopo, task force members from each of Florida’s 10 law schools were active in the development of the division and its goals. Other Florida State Law task force members were Greg Noonan, a recent Florida State Law graduate, and Abby Robinson, a rising second-year student and member of the Law Student Division board.
