TALLAHASSEE — The Florida State University College of Law Moot Court Team won its third first place national victory of the month when it won the 2012 Domenick L. Gabrielli National Family Law Competition over the weekend. The competition was held February 23-25 at Albany Law School in Albany, New York. This is the fourth time Florida State has won the competition.

Winning team members are third-year law students Whitney Brummett, from Eureka, Missouri, and Chelsea England, from Tallahassee, Florida. They were coached by College of Law Professor Steve Johnson. Brummett also won runner-up best oralist in the preliminary rounds.

"We are all very proud to be celebrating our Moot Court Team’s third first place national victory of 2012," said Dean Don Weidner. 'This victory continues the team’s tradition of extraordinary success."

Twenty-four teams from 22 law schools participated in the competition, including University of Chicago, American University, Louisiana State University, Syracuse University, University of Mississippi, University of Arkansas, Wake Forest University and New York Law School. The final round judges were all judges on New York courts.

In February, the Moot Court Team also won the George Washington Religious Freedom Moot Court Competition and the Charleston School of Law National Moot Court Competition. Since 2010, the team has won first place in eight national competitions and in one international competition.
