TALLAHASSEE — West Palm Beach attorney Marcos R. Gonzalez, a 1998 law  school graduate, recently increased to $100,000 his gift to the Florida State University  College of Law. Gonzalez pledged to increase his established endowment by $75,000. The  gift to the Marcos R. Gonzalez Endowed Scholarship will be eligible for a 50 percent  match from the state of Florida. The $50,000 state match will be added to the permanent  endowment, creating a total endowment of $150,000.

The income generated by the endowment will provide scholarships to students who  are from groups that are historically underrepresented in the legal profession. Scholarship  recipients also will have financial need and will have overcome significant obstacles.

“We are all very appreciative of Marcos’ generous financial support of the law school,” said Dean Don Weidner. “In this down economy, we must count on private  support more than ever. This endowment will help us further the education of students who  might not otherwise have the opportunity to earn law degrees.”

“It is important  to give  back  so  others can benefit from a  Florida  State  legal  education as I have,” said Gonzalez. “I especially want to help students who have financial  need and who have beat odds that would have made it easy for them to give up on higher  education.”

Gonzalez is a partner in the West Palm Beach firm of Gonzalez & Garcia. He  practices primarily in the areas of personal injury and workers’ compensation.
