Ashaa Cumberbatch earned her bachelor of law degree with first class honors from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill in Barbados. During her undergraduate studies, Cumberbatch served as secretary of the Kiwanis Club of Bridgetown Young Professionals. She also sat on the board for the Barbados Youth Development Council, an umbrella group for youth charities in Barbados, as well as the Non-State Actors Panel, facilitating a deeper involvement in civil society in partnership with the European Union. Cumberbatch went on to earn her legal education certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago, participating in legal aid clinics and representing her law school at the American and Caribbean Law Initiative’s Caribbean Law Practicum. She began her legal work conducting legal research as an intern at WPC Investments LLC, and later became an associate attorney after her admission to the Bar Association of Barbados in 2017. 

Cumberbatch will continue her legal education at FSU in the LL.M. in American Law for Foreign Lawyers program, with the goal of sitting for the New York Bar in 2021.
